It’s WA’s Rottnest Safety Convoy time again, with the next convoy taking place from November 5 to 6 and departing from various locations, including Hillarys, Fremantle, Woodman’s Point, Rockingham and Mandurah.
Organised by the Boating Industry Association of Western Australia (BIAWA), along with Water Police, Department of Transport Marine Safety, Challenger TAFE and FESA, the convoy will show new and experienced boaties how to get to Rottnest Island safely, how to navigate the bays, and will also provide vital safety information on flares, PFDs, beach anchoring, tenders and much more.
Once at Rottnest, participants will tour the bays and drop anchor. Fun- filled events and demonstrations are planned, including a safety quiz for young and old. Quiz prizes are donated by BIAWA members and this year total more than $4000 in value. Prizes include Club Marine Insurance, The Vines Resort Golf package, Battery World Osborne Park Marine Batteries, Wombat Anchors, JPW PFDs and all sorts of fantastic give-aways.
The BIAWA holds two convoys per year. Participation numbers are limited, and organisers recommend early bookings to avoid disappointment.
