The Sydney International Boat Show will open its gates for the 45th time from August 2 to 6. Recognised internationally as one of the world’s leading boat shows, it is set to deliver a host of entertaining, informative and educational experiences for its visitors.
Set in Sydney’s Darling Harbour and on the marina in adjoining Cockle Bay, the show will boast a display of almost 800 boats undercover and 150 on the marina. Show-goers can expect a superb line-up of recreational boats across all boating lifestyle segments. Whether fishing, sailing, water skiing or wake boarding, canoeing or kayaking, or simply just cruising around, organisers say the show will have something for everyone to look at.
Visitors are invited to drop in on the friendly team at the Club Marine stand, centrally located in hall 5, stand 502. There, visitors can enter into the draw to win a five-night holiday to Hamilton Island, or donate a gold coin to support the volunteer Coast Guard in exchange for the ultimate show souvenir: an inflatable life ring.
The new range of Club Marine merchandise will be available, too, with fashionable hoodies, jackets, newly-styled rugby and polo shirts and plenty of accessories. Club members will receive a free gift when they visit the stand, and anyone can enquire about boat insurance and how Club Marine Assist can help them.
Club Marine’s resident chef, Bart Beek will once again host his live cooking demonstrations and entertain the crowds with delicious recipes and his engaging culinary show, and show-goers are invited to pick up a complementary copy of Club Marine featuring Bart’s latest creations in the Gourmet section.
The Marine Precinct, situated at the doors of hall 5, is expected to be a hub of activity, hosting an array of government departments, educational institutions and marine safety partners all ready to help visitors make their recreational boating better. This is a must-see area, especially for those new to boating, and the teams on hand will assist with the essentials to ‘get you going’.
Entertainment will feature prominently throughout the show this year, especially at the new ‘MyBoatingLife’ entertainment precinct located in hall 3. Guests can expect a non-stop line-up of exceptional speakers covering subjects on fishing, sailing and boating in general. The stage will also host the Musto Fashion Extravaganza with the latest in boating and sportswear, plus special guests such as Cas and Jonesy, who will share the heroic story of their recent walk to the South Pole and back.
Another popular attraction will be the Walk of Fame located on the marina. Here visitors can enjoy a close-up look at many historic vessels, some of them closely linked to the history of Sydney Harbour.
There will be plenty to keep fishos entertained, too, with the show hosting the grand final of the 2012 Berkley Evinrude Teams Series. Watch as the teams return for the weigh-in at the BETS Bream Tank located at the Harbourside Amphitheatre.
Sure to draw some laughs, the annual Boat Building Competition will see teams from various Australian and New Zealand boat builders build a boat using minimal tools and materials before competing in a race around Cockle Bay. It must be said that some of these ‘boats’ don’t float too well!
Boat shows are often the launching place for those new to the scene wanting to embark on a new boating lifestyle. At the show, both inexperienced and skilled boaties can explore the multitude of boating options and discover that recreational boating truly does have something for everyone.
