With reports of 30kg tuna being caught early in the season before Christmas, the organisers of the Riviera Port Lincoln Tuna Classic are eagerly awaiting this year’s event, to be held from April 11-13.
At last year’s tournament, a world record for a two-day fishing tournament on light tackle (10kg line class) was made, with 900 fish caught and released with an average weight of 13kg.
Anglers in Riviera craft will converge on the waters around Port Lincoln, SA to chase southern bluefin tuna on 10kg monofilament line. Club Marine SA/NT State Manager Mike Sinclair, who caught his first tuna at last year’s tournament, will take part in a bid to better his catch of 10 tuna aboard tournament director, Peter Teakle’s 56ft Riviera The Battler.
