Preparations are well underway for the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron’s signature offshore yachting event, the Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race. The 343nm race, from Queensland’s Moreton Bay to Rossyln Bay at Great Keppel Island, will start at midday on July 30.
With participating yachts ranging from 30ft cruisers to 100ft maxi yachts, the course sees the fleet cruise along the shorelines of iconic Fraser Island before crossing the Tropic of Capricorn bound for Keppel Bay Marina.
It’s a challenging offshore race that traditionally is also contested by those heading further north to Airlie Beach Race Week and the pinnacle regatta of the winter eastern seaboard circuit, Audi Hamilton Island Race Week.
