Celebration of Sail
It is entirely appropriate that a brewery sponsors Hahn Premium Hamilton Island Race Week. I say this after having just attended my first-ever Race Week from August 19 to 28. My conclusion comes from exhaustive – and exhausting – research conducted at the many bars, parties, do’s, receptions and various other social occasions at Race Week. This yacht racing is thirsty business, and nowhere – apparently – is it more thirst-inducing than at Hamilton Island.Boatlines | Feature | Marketplace | Publisher's Page | Technical Article

The Benchmark
Heroism can be defined in many ways. My dad always said true heroism is about being a responsible human being. Being responsible to oneself, to one’s work and to society. This aphorism, in combination with a high dosage of commitment and passion perfectly describes the Mornington Peninsula’s Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) service.Boatlines | Feature | Marketplace | Publisher's Page | Technical Article

A Croc Called Casey
Most Top Enders have a tale or two to tell about encounters with crocodiles, some tall, some true. But our man in Darwin, Steve Timmons, once had a pet croc that loved TV snacks and actually ate out of a bowl. Beautiful one day
There's no denying that the nineteenth Hamilton Island Race Week was beset by weather problems, but despite the cooler and damper than expected conditions, the 2002 event went off without a hitch. The race management and overall event organisation, headed by the very capable Warwick Hoban, once again showed how to put on a week-long yacht regatta confirming Hamilton Island Race Week as Australia's premier yacht racing event.Boatlines | Feature | Marketplace | Publisher's Page | Technical Article

The Club Marine Southern 80 2002
When Hellrazor smashed the Baker's Blitz record by a whopping eleven seconds at the Club Marine-sponsored Southern 80 ski race, there was talk around the town that the team of driver Mark Cranny, observer Greg James and skiers Justin Cadden and Steve Row would make Top Shot's outright record for the 80-kilometre river race, set in 2000, look pretty sick.Boatlines | Feature | Marketplace | Publisher's Page | Technical Article

Biggest Yet: Hamilton Race Week 2001
An incredible 182 yachts entered the 2001 Hahn Premium Race Week - but light winds and strong tides tested both the competitors and the race organisers. If the entries for Hamilton Island's annual Race Week were charted over the years, the graph would look like the income curve of a highly successful corporation. The number of entries this year eclipsed last year's entry list by 31. Boatlines | Fun In The Sun: We review the Mariner 430 | Feature | Marketplace | Publisher's Page

Top End Tinnies
Garry Quinn, a self-confessed, mad fisherman from Darwin started G.S. Marine as a hobby in 1998. He had split his 4.6-metre tinny right up the middle, so badly, that the bilge pump could not keep up. After limping home defying the odds - and after some serious head scratching - he decided that pressed aluminum boats were as weak as, well at least this one was. Not the sort of bloke to sit around when there are fish to catch, so he says; "No worries, I'll build me own boat". This Cat Is No Pussy
The mark came up quickly, very quickly, I eased the boat into the turn, "steady", said Peter McGrath through the intercom as he adjusted the throttles to accelerate out of the turn and we headed to the next mark. A huge rooster tail fanned out behind the big pink monster. I chanced a glance at the GPS, it showed we were charging across Geelong Harbour at 120 knots. For landlubbers that is 216kph. In a car that's fast, on water it's bloody fast.Boatlines | Feature | Marketplace | Technical Article | Publisher's Page | Reward | Skiff Sailing
