Yamaha F60A

With the release of the new F60A, Yamaha engineers have produced a lightweight, high-performance, carburetted, four-stroke that weighs the same as an equivalent two-stroke. The power head is based on the existing F50A with a larger bore and newly-designed valve system, crankshaft, cylinder head, starter motor and CDI unit. Designed for long range operations, Yamaha says that the engine combines speed and cargo-lifting grunt with economy. They claim that two-stroke owners converting to the F60A can expect to double the range of the fuel tank.

Navnet Network System

Furuno has introduced a new concept in marine electronics - Navnet. The system provides the capability to communicate from one display to another using Furuno's Ethernet-based network. Navnet allows users to customise marine electronics according to the need, from a standard radar and chart plotter unit a GPS, fish finder and even multiple displays can be added. Navnet can turn a single or dual display system into a multiple display system simply by adding an Ethernet hub. The hub allows the products to talk to each other and share information through a single cable. All the displays connected to the network act as master units that can control any Navnet component.

Optimax Performance Outboard

Mercury engineers have pulled the covers off their latest Optimax offering. The new Optimax 200XS performance outboard represents a culmination of advanced, direct fuel-injection, two-stroke technology developed by Mercury.
Mercury Racing's Optimax 200 earned it XS advanced performance designation and entry into the record books after winning the 2000 24 hour Rouen endurance powerboat race in France.
The 200XS not only won the race but also set records for the most laps completed (837) and fastest average speed (80mph).
Race-proven technology includes the new Propulsion Control Module (PCM) 555 processor. The module allows for very precise control of fuel and spark throughout the engine-operating range, providing maximum power, fuel economy and durability. This compact 2.5 litre V6 powerhead design spins up to 6500rpm and is available in short and standard shaft models.

Radar Antennas

Raymarine has added two new high performance antennas - the Pathfinder 7S, 72in, 4kW and Pathfinder 11S, 72in, 10kW - to its open array radar scanners. The new antennas feature eight-pulse width operation that enhances target presentation and allows the displayed target size to be matched to the range setting. This feature, coupled with a short 60ns pulse and high PRF (Pulse Repetition Frequency) and the capability of a 72nm range with a narrow beam width of 1.1 degrees, provides optimum target resolution previously associated with commercial ship radars.
