Mercury’s new four-strokes

Mercury Marine is set to launch three new outboards at this year’s Club Marine Melbourne Boat Show.

The 75, 90 and 115hp four-stroke outboards share common engine architecture and components with Mercury’s Verado range and feature SmartCraft technology.

These 1.7-litre engines are controlled by an electronic control module (ECM) that features a Motorola microprocessor, which, according to Mercury, provides precise control over the fuel management system and engine combustion process. It also constantly monitors the engine sensors, making necessary adjustments to maintain optimum function.

Lowrance has introduced a range of multi-function gauges to complement the LowranceNET (NMEA 2000) network.

These round, high-contrast, dot matrix gauges can be fully integrated into the onboard communications network to display graphic and numerical digital data.

Featuring LED backlighting with connectivity to a remote speaker for alarms, the gauges are available in two sizes – the LMF 200 fits a standard 55mm diameter hole and the LMF 400 fits an 86mm diameter hole.

To further complement the range, Lowrance offers a series of NMEA 2000 compatible diagnostic sensors or electronic probes (EPs).

Waterproof and corrosion-resistant, the EPs read both digital and analogue data and integrate with the system to provide information on the multi-function gauges.

Humminbird 700 series

The new Humminbird 700 series fishing systems offer fishos a large range of choices.

It is available in high-contrast monochrome or high-definition colour LCD, including Humminbird’s Hemispherical Viewing that, according to Humminbird, provides a sharp, clear picture no matter what angle you view the screen.

A choice of chart plotter GPS, with the option of a Navionics Gold cartography or track plotter, can be added to either a dual- or quad-beam sonar.

All of the 700 series models are designed to be either in-dash or gimbal-mounted and four of the five models have DualBeam PLUS sonar to provide both wide coverage (one sonar beam is 83kHz at 60 degrees) and below boat detail (the second sonar beam is 200kHz at 20 degrees).

Both colour and monochrome 700 series models have a 127mm (diagonal) screen that delivers a high-contrast (640 vertical pixels x 480 colour or 320 monochrome horizontal pixels) high-resolution picture with a power output of 4000 Watts peak to peak (500 Watts RMS) standard on all models.

Three of the new 700 series models will include Humminbird’s exclusive Digital Screen Snap Shot feature, which provides the ability to mark a waypoint on the screen and then save the entire screen image on a memory card.

Optional features, such as a wireless sonar link, WeatherSense Barometric Pressure Monitor and system link are also available.

Cummins QSM11

Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD) has introduced a 715hp rating for its 11-litre QSM11 engine.

Maritimo is the first boat builder in the south Pacific to offer the QSM11-715 as standard fitment in its 48 and 52ft cruisers.

The higher horsepower rating has been achieved by refining performance components such as the piston bowl design, plus fitting a new camshaft and a new generation of injectors.

Cummins has also beefed up the flywheel and oil pan to accommodate the higher engine speeds.

Now rated at 2500rpm – up from 2300rpm in the lower power offerings – the QSM11-715 has, according to Cummins, improved performance on the propeller curve, yielding better slow speed manoeuvring, stronger acceleration and better overall top end performance.
