No. The vessel must be physically and visually inspected by a qualified person. Any report completed using AI or images alone will be considered void and will not be accepted by us.
The report must be dated as at the date the inspection was completed and must clearly state the name of the person who inspected the vessel and the name of the company or business completing the report.
In the case that we require clarification of any details within the report, we reserve the right to reach out directly to the person or business that completed the report.
If you have been requested to provide a report it is a mandatory requirement if you wish to continue insuring your vessel with us.
In our experience vessels that have issues are typically those that have not been regularly maintained or serviced. In many cases these issues can go undetected by the owner until something goes wrong, either on or getting to the water.
A report helps identify any underlying concerns with the structural integrity or mechanical condition of your vessel before they become a safety risk. It is to provide both you and us the confidence that your boat is in a seaworthy condition and safe for you and your passengers.
If the boat has recently changed ownership, we may accept a report completed within the last 12 months. For boats where ownership hasn't changed, reports within the last 2 years may be acceptable.
If you don't have a copy of the report, you may be able to obtain it by:
- Asking the previous owner to send you a copy directly.
- Asking the previous owner to contact us and confirm that we can release the report to you. To do this, they'll need to provide your full name and authorise us to share the report with you.
Club Marine will request a report or survey every 5 years. We provide 12 months' notice to have the inspection report completed unless otherwise stated, allowing you plenty of time to arrange the inspection to coincide with your usual service and maintenance program.
Survey Reports and Marine Craft Risk Evaluations are required to be completed by a qualified marine surveyor or shipwright.

If the report identifies issues, we will request confirmation of repairs or a maintenance plan for any items noted requiring further attention.
When submitting your report, please include in writing:
- Details of repairs, actions and maintenance you intend to take
- Approximate timeframes for repairs
If a defect or unseaworthy condition on your boat contributes to a loss your claim may be reduced or refused under the policy's general exclusions.
We understand that not all repairs are a quick fix. Depending on the nature of the issue and the level of risk we may accept a maintenance plan that outlines how and when repairs will be completed. If the issue affects the seaworthiness of your boat, repairs may need to be completed before full cover can be provided.
Club Marine does not cover the cost of slipping or the appointment of surveyor or mechanic. To help reduce additional expenses, we recommend arranging the survey at the same time as your regular maintenance or servicing.
If the report can't be completed before your policy expires, contact us before your renewal date. We may be able to consider an extension, depending on your circumstances and the information available to us.
If you're having trouble arranging a survey or obtaining the report, please contact us as soon as possible. We'll discuss your circumstances and review the available options.
