Club Marine has joined forces with the Boating Industry Association (BIA) to encourage more Australians to consider a marine industry career, working on or near the water.
A new video showcases the diverse, rewarding and increasingly important career opportunities available across Australia’s boating sector with a goal of attracting new talent. Filmed in real workplaces, it takes viewers behind the scenes, capturing the energy of workshops, boatyards, marinas and dealerships, along with modern technology.
Opportunities extend across boatbuilding, mechanical and electrical trades, marine engineering, manufacturing, marina operations, sales, insurance, tourism, design, technology, administration and many other fields.
Club Marine CEO Tim Wiles said the company’s support for the campaign reflects a long-standing commitment to the people who make the industry thrive.
“We have long been big supporters of getting great talent into our industry,” he said. “It wasn’t until we spoke to a number of our employees and partners that we realised there isn’t a linear entry point into the industry and that’s something the Marine Jobs initiative is working to change.”
“From an insurance perspective, a shortage of tradespeople and limited repair capacity can affect our ability to settle claims efficiently. The campaign is therefore not just about promoting employment opportunities; it’s about building and sustaining a skilled workforce that supports boat owners well into the future.”
BIA CEO Andrew Fielding said the campaign aimed to raise awareness of pathways available for people entering the industry.
“It highlights the multiple roles available but, importantly, it’s also about showing young people where they can study, what they can learn and how apprenticeships can help them begin a marine career,” Mr Fielding said.
“At the same time, much of the industry is made up of family-owned small- and medium-sized businesses. For those businesses to flourish and grow, we need to attract the next generation of skilled team members and preserve the extraordinary trades and capabilities that already exist within the industry.”

The video, featuring six profile stories, challenges the perception that people need to be experienced boaties to build a rewarding marine career while also highlighting the excellent long-term prospects.
“The key message is that if you have drive and motivation, having a job in the boating industry can take you anywhere, and you will be supported by many great people who want to see you succeed," Mr Wiles added.
“The future of our industry will be supported by the advancements of technology and AI, creating new opportunities. Whether you are a school leaver or someone considering a career change, I highly recommend considering a career in boating.”
