Quick overview
Stepping aboard the M230, the newest M-Series Malibu boat to reach Australian shores, the feeling of spaciousness is impressive. At 7.01m (23ft) with a 2.59m beam, this is a long, wide and deep hull with high freeboard, ample room to move about, and loads of seating.
But you won’t buy this boat just for its luxurious, roomy fitout. Designed to make the biggest surf wave and wakeboard wake possible, the M230 runs more ballast tanks than other Malibu model - six in total - that fill and drain in a matter of minutes to get riders onto their preset waves, quickly.
Shaping those rides is Malibu’s Power Wedge III technology that works via a hydraulically-deployed reverse hydrofoil mounted at the stern. It adjusts the length and height of your wakes & waves, and teams with the boat’s Surf Gate Fusion - large gates built into the transom - to deliver a large, clean surf wave on either side of the boat.
Malibu Command Center
Everything is tuned to suit rider preferences and controlled either at the helm’s Command Center, or by the rider via a wearable wireless Malibu Surf Band.
The heartbeat of boat, the M-series Command Center features an ultra-wide touchscreen displaying all the wake tech and boat controls in a clear, simple layout, along with individual rider presets that you can adjust at the touch of a button.
To the left of the steering wheel there’s a secondary 8in touchscreen for navigating the stereo, lighting, GPS navigation, cockpit features, and more. A rotary control knob at the driver’s right armrest for cycling between inputs is instinctive and easy to use.
Exclusive to the M-Series is a control screen in the rear so that passengers can adjust audio, lighting and heating.
Another innovation on the M230 is Malibu’s Setpoint speed control system, which holds constant speed precisely - a key function that wakeboarders and surfers will appreciate. Setpoint also quickly returns the boat to any set speed, which is useful when coming out of turns or getting back onto the plane.
Premium features of the Malibu M230 Wake Boat
Our test boat was fitted with the Ascend Pro tower, an electric retractable design featuring overhead mood and downlights that illuminate the entire cockpit area.
There was a built-in misting system to cool passengers, and a premium audio system with dual subwoofers, eight internal cockpit speakers, and four of Malibu’s new 12in premium speakers on the tower.
The boat’s 16 seats come with premium, durable Cool Touch upholstery - all-new for 2026 - to take the edge off high summertime temperatures. The wraparound cockpit lounge hides storage under every seat, and there’s no shortage of places to stash your gear elsewhere aboard.
The rear lounge seating can be set up to face forward or back, so you can watch the real action happening on the waves. A large swimplatform with drop-down step reaches below water level to make climbing in and out of the water easier.

Handling the M230's power
Our test boat was powered by Malibu’s range-topping supercharged 2026 Monsoon LT4 engine that puts out 652hp, up from 607hp on the previous model. Despite the M230’s size, the steering felt precise, light and surprisingly nimble, even in hard turns.
While it might be easy to get distracted by the many bells and whistles and advanced high-tech features, the most impressive thing about this boat is how it behaves on the water.
The raw performance is quite extraordinary considering the boat’s size and weight (around 3062kg dry),. and with the new LT4 engine, it’s no surprise it gets up and going very easily - ballast empty or loaded.
We were lucky to have near-glass conditions on test day and resorted to circling back over our wake to demonstrate just how good this hull is at keeping passengers comfortable, with a cushioning effect that very few boats can match.
A nice touch for the driver is the dash indicator that shows the rudder’s position - useful if you’ve been floating for a while, have just jumped in the driver’s seat, or while manoeuvring to pick up riders or reset for the next one.
Also worth mentioning is the lift position on the Power Wedge III to control bow rise when planing - another nice touch that adds to the boat’s effortless driveability.
Malibu M230 wakes and waves
Our wakeboarding test pilot for the day was 13-year-old Malibu team rider Parker Edwards, who put on a show that impressed onlookers. With the ballast tanks full and the Power Wedge deployed, the huge wake provided a superb, smooth ramp for Parker to show off his tricks.
While the size can be dialled right down, the wake always maintains its riding integrity, making it adjustable for people of all skill levels from junior to professional.
Likewise, the surf wave was large and smooth - perfect for surfer Rosie Schnel who thoroughly enjoyed her time on the water.
The M230 impresses from every angle. Exceptional innovation and technology advancements feature throughout, and when you team that with luxury, perfect waves, an immaculate build quality, and room enough for families with friends, you build a pretty awe-inspiring wakeboard boat.
