Electric outboards might seem like the new kids in town, but the all-new Spirit 2 arrives in Australia a full decade after ePropulsion launched its Spirit 1.0 at the 2015 METSTRADE fair.

That’s 10 years of design innovation and evolution by the sector’s global leader, all wrapped in a light, compact, fourth-generation marine propulsion package. Attesting to this, the Spirit 2 received a DAME Design Award nomination plus the Innovation Award for Alternative Propulsion at the 2026 Miami International Boat Show.

Australian distributor Power Equipment will debut the Spirit 2 at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, much to the interest of tender and dinghy owners seeking the equivalent of a 3.5-4hp ICE outboard.

New features of the Spirit 2 electric motor include the new Boost Mode where the 2kW continuous output can actually be increased to 3kW (6hp equivalent). That added power will help combat tidal surges or wind gusts without, according to Power Equipment, compromising the motor’s efficiency and quietness.

Paired with a class-leading, quick-connect 1.5-KWh battery, the unit weighs just 20.6kg in extra-short form – 10.2kg for the motor, 10.4kg for the battery, which can be carried and transported separately for further ease.

Additional new features include a detachable clamp and foldable, adjustable-length tiller, while among functional upgrades are shallow-water trimming, 90-degree tilt, an integrated steering lock, and a kill switch. The motor includes ePropulsion’s hydrogeneration technology, plus there’s a 45W USB-C output for device charging.

“Spirit 2 embodies our vision for the future of electric boating, where power and portability go hand in hand,” says ePropulsion co-founder and CEO, Danny Tao. “We’ve taken everything that users appreciated about the original Spirit and advanced it further to deliver greater power, enhanced portability and intelligent control.”

You can see the ePropulsion Spirit 2 electric boat motor in addition to Power Equipment’s prestigious stable of brands including Yanmar, John Deere, Smartgyro and Gori Propeller at stand P216 at SCIBS.
