All boats
- Service your boat at a marine service centre
- Save money on your insurance by adding lay up when you renew with Club Marine. Terms and conditions apply
- Check for mould and rot and clean if needed
- Leave bunk mattresses upright and locker doors ajar
- Empty cupboards and storage spaces
- Take everything home and wash, repair, or replace it
- Flush the head and sinks with fresh water
- Clean the boat and remove any organic material and water
- Wash down live bait tanks and fishing equipment
- Rinse the anchor and chain
- Hose out scuppers and cockpit drains
- Drain the water and waste tanks
- Check for signs of corrosion
- Charge and maintain the batteries
- Top up the fuel tank and consider adding a marine fuel stabiliser
- Park trailer boats away from trees and keep the cover tight
- Check the pressure in the trailer tyres and check that the lug nuts on the wheels are secure
Moored boat
- Check all automatic pumps are working and have sufficient battery or onshore power
- Check the bilge pumps and their hoses, connections, and wiring
- Close off the seacocks and dry the sumps
- Check all lines and the integrity of cleats, fairleads, winches, and all tie-up points that are under load
- Remove biminis, dodgers and clears to prevent storm damage
- Take down furling sails and sails off booms
- Remove any electronics and equipment exposed to weather
PWC
- Flush the motor
- Wash and dry with a chamois
- Take the seat off, open storage containers and remove everything. Wash, repair, or replace as necessary
- Put seat back on a resting block or foam so air can flow
- Lubricate all engine components with anti-corrosion spray
- Charge the battery for 24 hours
- Top up the fuel tank and consider adding a marine fuel stabiliser
- Check trailer tyre pressures and wheel lug nuts are secure
